Ron Howard’s latest venture into Dan Brown’s religio-thriller world, Angels And Demons, nabbed $48 million at the US box office, according to estimates.

That’s significantly lower than the $77 million opening of first film The Da Vinci Code, but then even the studio seems to have been prepared for that idea. And the film is performing much better outside the US.

The freshly revitalised Star Trek, meanwhile, gave up the top spot, but only just – with a healthy 46% drop, it still took in $43 million and is now the most successful Trek movie across the pond with $148 million in the bank.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine got shoved down to third place, nabbing $15 million, while Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past went down to fourth with $6.8 million.

In fifth place, Obsessed took in $4.5 million.

The top 10 in easy-to-glance-at chart form…

1. Angels & Demons ($48 million)
2. Star Trek ($43 million)
3. X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($15 million)
4. Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past ($6.8 million)
5. Obsessed ($4.5 million)
6. 17 Again ($3.4 million)
7. Monsters Vs Aliens ($3 million)
8. The Soloist ($2.4 million)
9. Next Day Air ($2.2 million)
10. Earth ($1.7 million

Comparing this movie to The DaVinci Code, you can see the improvement.
From start to finish this movie moves at a briskful pace and keeps you entertained throughout.
Even though this movie was supposed to be a prequel (if you've read the book), Ron Howard mamanges to pull it off as a sequel.

The movie follows Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) as he helps uncover a plot to blow up Vatican City.

The movie is alot darker than The DaVinci Code, and provides an eerie tone. The darker scenes help this movie become an improvement. I also enjoyed that Langdon wasn't being persued in this movie, because that would have been tiresome.

My only problem is that the ending became too predictable, and I managed to guess the twist before it even cropped up.

The movie is beautifully done, and I found the look of Vatican city to be spectacular.

Overall, a brilliant and clever movie, and I just hope they decide to adapt the latest Robert Langdon book into a movie, it's something I will definately look out for.

9/10
